Elections are central to ensuring that a democratic government is responsive to the will of the people.
For elections to be truly democratic, they must be free, fair, and based on universal suffrage and not a tool for authoritarian control. Elections that support a democracy ensure the peaceful transfer of power, promoting government accountability, and empowering citizens through inclusive processes on all levels of government.
