Endorsements

Mt. Airy Democrats Endorsements Process

Depending on the election cycle, the Mt. Airy Democrats Endorsement Committee determines the selection process and online ballot. The endorsement of candidates is a four-step process.

  1. Candidates and issues are confirmed by the Steering Committee and assigned to the Endorsement Committee.
  2. Information on each candidate is gathered and/or an online forum is recorded as background information for Mt. Airy Dems voting members.
  3. The Endorsement Committee selects the voting method that will provide the most popular choice of the membership. In most elections, the traditional single-winner, plurality voting method is used. In the 2023 primary when there were 16 candidates for 10 seats on Common Pleas Court, the ranked choice voting method was used: a series of run off elections eliminating the candidate with the fewest votes until a  candidate with 50% of the vote is declared the winner. In judicial races where candidates compete for seats on multiple courts, the cumulative voting method is used, where voters distribute multiple votes among candidates.
  4. An online ballot is created using Google Forms and shared with members who are given a deadline to cast their votes.

A flyer with the endorsed candidates is published for distribution and posted on this website.

Retention elections are often sleepy affairs, but this year Trump allies like Jeffrey Yass are putting millions to overturn Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court. Why? Because these three Justices:

  • Blocked gerrymandering of Congressional districts
  • Ruled in favor of Fair Funding for our Public Schools
  • Protected Consumers Against Companies Producing Harmful Products
  • Protected our PA Constitutional right to a clean environment and reproductive freedoms, and
  • Protected PA elections against Trump’s false claims.
