Eligible to vote or recently moved? Here’s what you need to know.
Are you at least 18 years old, an American citizen and Pennsylvania resident or recently moved? If you are a new voter or new resident, here is all you need to know to be a properly registered voter. On this page, we explain and provide you with access to the options and instructions to register to vote, whether online or on a paper form.
Registering to vote requires an application to be completed and submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of State. You have several options. You can register online, or download and fill out a form that can be mailed or hand delivered to one of several satellite locations. At a satellite location, one can register, apply for a mail ballot, receive the mail ballot and vote, all in one visit.
Update Your Registration
Recently moved? Changed your name? Want to change your party affiliation? You must update your voter registration. You can update your voter registration online, by mail or in person using the voter registration application form.
Track Your Voter Registration Application & Check Registration Status
After you submit a new registration or update an existing one, tracking your application allows you to make sure your paperwork was received and approved by election officials. If you don’t receive a voter registration card within two weeks, checking your status lets you confirm your registration is in the system. This can all be done online or with a phone call (215-686-1591) to the Philadelphia County’s City Commissioners office. All you need is your name, date of birth, and voter application number.
Knowing your voter registration status is crucial for ensuring you can cast your ballot on or before Election Day without any issues. Since voter rolls are constantly changing, checking your status is a proactive step to confirm your eligibility. You want to verify your information is correct, determine your polling place and if you choose to, request an absentee or mail in ballot.
